Registration
Registering is the first step to voting. You can check your registration status, update your registration, or register for the first time using the resources below. For more information, please visit the Michigan Votes tool.
The last day to register online or by mail is October 21, 2024. In-person registration with proof of residency is available from October 21 – November 5, 2024.
How to Register to Vote
*You must have a valid Michigan Driver’s License or State ID in order to register online. Please click Register by Mail if you do not have a valid Michigan Driver’s License or State ID.
In-Person Registration: Voters may also register up through Election Day in-person in the Clerk’s Office with proof of residency. Our office will be open the Saturday before each election from 8:00 am-4:00 pm to register voters and issue absent voter ballots.
Who Can Register to Vote
To be eligible to register to vote you must be:
- A United States citizen
- A Michigan resident and a resident of the City of Muskegon for at least 30 days
- At least 18 years of age before or on election day
Pre-registration
You may pre-register to vote if you are 17.5 years old, and meet all of the other eligibility requirements to vote. If you pre-register to vote, you will automatically be registered to vote on your 18th birthday.

When Should I Re-Register?
When to re-register to vote:
- You move
- You change your name
